In 2003 Emily Springer, a long time Camper, played for us a new song she had written. It has since become a favorite of many Campers.
Emily Springer:
“School never interested me enough to merit my full attention, and my home life was blissfully sheltered but lacking in general warmth and affection. I was very young when I first encountered Camp Dixie and it’s then owner, Miss Ann, but I already knew, this was my home. The love and attention I received at “the King of Camps” forever changed me, and I was hooked from the first. With this attachment came the inevitable loneliness by comparison of the school year. I doodled the emblem on all my notebooks and daydreamed of the friendships I had made. Suffice it to say, my teachers found me insufferable. Enevitably I made friends at school and we shared a similar bond that only served to make me miss Camp Dixie more. I was “Camp sick” one day while writing a song in my electronic music class and I guess the muse came to me. The “home” in the song is, of course, Camp Dixie, and while I like to think I have since moved on to more complex lyrics and melodies as well as improved my vocal abilities, I cannot deny the simple truth of this simple song which, for me, has never changed. At Camp Dixie, I am home.”

Lyrics:
I wanna go home
Where the grass is greener,
Where the lights are dimmer,
Where the stars are brighter
I wanna go home
Where you’ll never be alone
Oh, take me home
I wanna go home
They always said
That I should miss my warm comfy bed
But whenever I am away
I would much rather be here instead
I wanna go home
Where the grass is greener,
Where the lights are dimmer,
where the stars are brighter
I wanna go home
Where you’ll never be alone
Oh, take me home
I wanna go home
Everywhere I go
And everyone I meet just remind me more
Every class spent here
Amplifies the urge to walk out the door
I wanna go home
Where the grass is greener,
Where the lights are dimmer,
Where the stars are brighter
I wanna go home
Where you’ll never be alone
Oh, take me home
I wanna go home
